Description
The LionSteel SR1 Original knife is an innovative design that is garnering a lot of attention. It was awarded the coveted “Most Innovative Imported Design” at the 2010 Blade Show in Atlanta, GA and has been receiving raving reviews from users and people in the knife industry. One reason for all of this attention is that the frame/handle is machined from a solid billet of titanium, a high strength and lightweight, space-age metal or Ergal aluminum. This impressive monolithic design creates a stout platform for features that increase the knife’s function and provides a solid frame for the robust blade. The ribbed texture on the handle provides for a more secure grip and the holes on the top add visual appeal, reduce weight and make it easier to clean.
Besides looking great, the SR-1?s functions operate very well also. The frame lock bar has good tension and snaps into place with a solid click. On the end of the locking bar is a hardened stainless steel piece which engages the blade’s tang, instead of the softer material of the locking bar. This prevents wear that would result from the difference in hardness between titanium (aluminum, SR-1A) and steel. The stainless steel piece is held in place with screws so it can be replaced if necessary.
Even though the locking mechanism is very solid, the locking bar can be reinforced by engaging LionSteel’s proprietary RotoBlock and#8482; safety. The RotoBlock and#8482; has two purposes. First it prevents over extending the locking bar while disengaging the lock and second it can be turned down against the locking bar to provide an additional measure of safety to prevent lock failure.
The SR-1 blade of the titanium version is Uddeholm Sleipner steel and the aluminum version features a D2 tool steel blade. The cutting edge is a very sharp convex grind. The blade also features a grooved thumb ramp for extra blade control and dual thumb studs for one handed opening.
The SR-1 comes with a right or left hand, tip up pocket clip. The clip is fastened to the knife with a hardened pointed bolt that doubles as a glass breaker. The bolt attaches using the provided LionSteel proprietary bolt/adjustment wrench (the titanium version ships with the clip removed). The SR-1 aluminum version does not come with the wrench and ships with the clip on. The bolt/adjustment tool also is used to adjust the pivot tension.
The SR-1 titanium version comes with a custom milled wooden box in a cardboard sleeve and the aluminum version comes in a plastic bag in a cardboard box.
